Aubrey knew something was wrong. There always something wrong in his life, and right now, it was the person he loved. He watched the boy for a short moment, and saw the flickers of confusion and pain and everything else Aubrey knew so well. He cringed; this was his fault. The boy was unhappy because of Aubrey, and now it hurt even more. Now the dagger that Kura had thrust into him the other night was welcomed. He wanted that type of pain back, because right now…right now he couldn’t deal with emotional pain at all. He let his hand slide away from the boys’ and nodded, walking ahead and not looking back. His face was angled slightly towards the ground, but his eyes were searching for the marks on the tree. His eyes were always searching for things, and this was no exception. He didn’t know if Tyler was following him, but at this point he expected the boy to. He needed to get out, even if he didn’t care for Aubrey; he still needed to get home.
Aubrey was used to being used. This wasn’t a surprise for him, but it didn’t stop it from hurting any less. His heart still ached for the being that was behind him, but his mind was screaming at him to run. His mind was screaming so many different things at him right now, and he didn’t know which one to follow; and so he did the only thing he knew how to. He walked. He kept walking. He kept going until they were out of the forest. He stopped ahead of the boy, keeping his back to him, and pointed to the right.
“Go that way. You’ll get home.” And then he continued to walk. He had to go finish what he came here to start. He was going to destroy his father’s grave once and for all, because right now, right now he could not deal. The tears were blurring his vision, and his body was trembling. He had been fooled. Tricked once again. Now he was going to go find Kura. Now he wanted her to kill him. He would more than willingly go…but he would have to bargain with her first. He would have to get her words, her signature in blood that she would never go after Tyler. That she would let him live his life without any interference ever again. Aubrey didn’t know why he felt the need to get away from the boy as fast as he could, but he did, and that was that. He waited until he was out of sight from the boy, before he let his tears fall and his body shake. He had to get his emotions out, and he had to do it now.
Aubrey let his legs carry him to a large tree before he sighed, body still quivering from the effects the other boy had on him. He let his hand gently settle on the tree for a moment, before taking a deep breath. He focused all his emotions into that one hand, gripping it around the wrist with his other one, and soon it began to glow a deep purple. The wind picked up around him as it whipped into his hair, tossing it from side to side for a short moment.
Then there was a wail. It was a wail like Aubrey had never heard before. The black light shot out overtaking the tree as it began to crack and split. Aubrey’s hair was forced in the opposite direction of the tree due to the intense wind he was creating. He felt tears leak out his eyes at a faster rate as the tree continued to scream for a moment, and then the wailing ceased. The tree had cracked down the middle, it had fallen to pieces and everything was forced into the ground. A scorch mark was left on the ground as Aubrey stood there, shaking and crying before falling to his knees. He didn’t like using so much power, but he didn’t know what else to do, because he knew it was all over now.
He knew everything had shattered just like the tree.

Tyler felt horrible as soon as he spoke. Now Aubrey had begun to distance himself farther than Tyler intended. The NEKO must have thought Tyler wanted him to leave him completely alone. That wasn't what he wanted, he wanted Aubrey's company, but he just wasn't certain that what they had been doing was right.
But it was too late to take back what he said. And maybe it was better that way. Maybe stepping back and taking a deep breath was exactly what he needed to do. Maybe he just needed to think before he spoke. But Aubrey had already told him which way was home- was that his way of dismissing him? Tyler stood still, staring down at the furry-eared boy with his lips parted slightly, like he wanted to say something but couldn't.
"Aubrey..." Unfortunately it was too late. Aubrey had turned his tail and started walking briskly away into the darker depths of the woods again. Suddenly, the day didn't seem so cheerful. The sun didn't seem as bright, and the birds didn't seem as happily chirping. What had he done? "Aubrey, please don't..." He was gone.
Tyler stood by himself in a small clearing, sighing and stuffing his hands in his pockets. He should have walked after him. He should have stopped him. But something in the back of his head told him that even if he did follow him, there was nothing he could do. Aubrey would make his own decisions. Maybe he was just one NEKO that Tyler couldn't save.
The teenage boy began heading the other direction. He didn't feel as great without Aubrey by his side, and there was a sudden cold breeze that hit the back of his neck, pushing his hair forward. 'Weird, there was no breeze before...' He stopped for a moment and listened. The leaves rustled across the ground, and then there was a loud noise. Some sort of wailing noise, and a loud crack. It was so loud that he wondered if lightning was able to strike without a storm cloud in sight. Then he heard the crash of branches and realized it must have been a tree.
His first thought was if Aubrey was alright. As long as Aubrey was alright, he would be okay. But if by some freak accident, a giant tree had fallen and crushed him to the ground? What would he do then? Tyler took a deep breath and turned around, knowing that he had to go back. Just to check.
He made his way back towards the direction Aubrey had disappeared in. There was a little path, so it wasn't hard to follow his trail. He knew immediantly what had caused the noise when he saw the giant tree split completely in half in front of him.
And between the tree halves was Aubrey.
Tyler stood there, confused. Had Aubrey caused the tree to fall? Was the boy alright? He could see the tears streaming down his cheeks, but was he hurt in any way? That was what he was mainly concerned about. It seemed like he wasn't the only one who couldn't control his emotions. Tyler had a feeling that if he was some sort of mutant NEKO, he would be losing control over his power a lot more often than Aubrey. But what hurt him the most inside was that he had caused Aubrey to do such a thing.
He turned his back to the NEKO once more. He was alive. He was okay. But Tyler just couldn't cause any more damage to the boy. He took off in the direction he had come from, disappearing down the path. He didn't stop running until he had reached the exit of the woodlands, stopping on the pavement of a side street and taking a deep breath. He wasn't sure what part of town he was in, but it was quiet and kind of trashy.
Tyler walked slower now, stuffing his hands in his pockets, hoping in the back of his mind that Aubrey would forgive him.

Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong in the air, and Aubrey could feel it. He could tell that something was…not right…but he didn’t know what. He had to stop crying for a moment, he had to stop shaking before he could listen. He let his chest heave up and down lightly as his tears stopped and his ears perked up, sensing; listening. His hands were trembling by the ground, and that’s when he heard it. Someone was moving. Someone was walking. He looked over, and he saw a small bush moving. It was wagging back and forth…and when Aubrey focused on the area….he smelt it.
He smelt Tyler.
His eyes widened for a moment. He had to stop the boy…he had to tell him he was sorry…he had to do so many things…but, but what if Tyler hated him now? What if the boy didn’t want anything to do with Aubrey? Maybe he would get punched by him? Maybe if he was lucky…maybe the boy would just ignore him and shrug him off as nothing. But Aubrey…he didn’t…he didn’t want to not be important…he didn’t want to be a member of the background anymore. He didn’t want to be forgotten again. But…what could he do now? He felt his knees get up from the ground, and he was shaking profusely. His body was quaking, his eyes were stinging and his wounds were hurting. But…it wasn’t his outer body wounds that were hurting…it was his inner. He felt like…he lost another person today. Just like he lost his father…he lost Tyler, and he just couldn’t handle that. A sob broke through the boy’s small persona as he suddenly dashed from the spot. He was running as fast as his body would allow him. He fumbled as he was running and regained himself in a moment, and kept running.
He had to find him. He had to be better. He had to do better. He couldn’t let Tyler hate him so easily…no…no it just…it couldn’t be like this. His body was pushing faster and faster, and then it happened. His legs lost his footing, and the boy went flying down into the ground, rolling and tumbling within the dirt a rocks. Small lacerations decorated his arms like a porcelain doll that had fallen on the ground, but he didn’t care. This pain was nothing. This wasn’t practically anything compared to the pain he felt when Tyler left. That was why he got up. That was why, despite the pieces of broken tree and rock that had lodged themselves into the small boy’s glossy skin; he kept running. His feet moved faster and faster, and soon his hands hit into the plush dirt as well, running on all fours and tapping more into the feline side of him that he ever had. His legs were stinging, burning, and his palms were open and sore; but he didn’t care. He couldn’t care at this moment. He pushed on. He would always push on. His mind was screaming at him to turn around, but he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t let the boy escape him so easily…he wouldn’t let love slip right through his fingers…no…not again.
The boy wasn’t sure for how long he was running, but soon he smelt pavement, and buildings and, and- and Tyler. His eyes squinted against the wind as he pushed forward, nearly crashing through a tree but avoiding it just in time, but losing his footing and tumbling to the side once more, this time skidding against the pavement. He felt his arms go raw and burn, but when he looked up; the silhouette of Tyler was in the distance. Aubrey felt tears fall out his eyes before he got up again, and bolted. The boy was getting closer and closer, and right when he was in ear’s shot-
“Tyler!” Aubrey crashed into him from behind, wrapping his arms around the boy and burying his face into is back, crying. He began to talk as he stood there, clutching onto the boy.
“I-I’m s-sorry, p-please c-come back, p-please don’t h-hate me. I-I’ll be b-better, I p-promise! J-just p-please…c-come b-back…please…” And then he was silent, clutching onto the boy, trying to make him stay.
He just wanted Tyler to stay.

If you've ever been walking by yourself in an unfamiliar place and you pass some creepy people that eye you suspiciously, like they knew that you shouldn't be there, then you know it's completely natural to pull out your cell phone and pretend to fumble with it. (As if the phone led you to this strange and unfamiliar place?) That's exactly what Tyler Owens did. He pulled out his phone and began to idly press buttons, clicking back and forth over the screen while he silently begged the old man across the street to stop staring at him. But he kept walking.
He wasn't used to this side of town. It was unkept and worn down, kind of like a ghetto. Tyler felt awkward walking by himself, but he told himself to just keep walking, because he'd find a way home sooner or later. Sure, he could call his mother to come pick him up. But then he would have to answer the dreaded question that he could already imagining her demanding- "Why didn't you come home last night?!" He chuckled to himself. He would have to come up with an answer for that later.
As he walked he was more and more lost in his own mind, until he heard a familiar voice call his name. 'Aubrey?' Before he could turn around, the NEKO had slammed into his back, almost pushing him forward into the cement. Tyler gasped in surprise, feeling the boy's fingers clenching into the material of his shirt. He was begging Tyler not to leave, to forgive him, promising he would be better- it made Tyler sick to his stomach. He felt bad for leaving Aubrey, but it was for the best, right? He wasn't gay. He refused to be gay. He refused to be with anyone.
Still, he couldn't abandon Aubrey and leave him on his own. That would be purposely cruel and unjust. "Aubrey... don't cry, please." he said with a sigh, prying the boy's hands away and turning to face his tearstained face. He would have said something to keep the boy from crying, but he couldn't help it. He didn't like seeing him cry. "Come here..." He lightly put his arms around the affectionate boy and hugged him close, stroking his hair softly to get him to stop crying.
There was nothing else he could do.

He didn’t know what to do. Aubrey didn’t know how to act. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know what he should tell the boy. Should he tell him everything? Spill out every last feeling he had? He just wanted to be with the boy. He just wanted to know what it felt like to be loved for once, was that so bad? Was it so wrong to have feelings for the boy he so desperately clutched to right now? Apparently it was. Apparently Aubrey wasn’t good enough, and that was the only thing he kept telling himself in his mind. He wasn’t good enough. He won’t ever be good enough. But he wanted to be. He wanted to be everything that Tyler wanted…but he didn’t know how, and he had to tell him. He had to say it, and so he did.
“I-I…I w-want to be s-something…y-you w-want…s-something you l-love…b-but I d-don’t know h-how to be…” He shook his head, burying it onto the boy’s chest once again. He couldn’t help but cry though. There was nothing else left for him to do, and he was completely dumbfounded as to what to say to make the boy stay; to make himself something Tyler could love. He knew he would do whatever Tyler wanted, as long as he could stay. As long as there could be a little place in Tyler’s heart, just for Aubrey…he would kill for it.
“I w-want to b-be able to h-hug you…t-to keep you…t-to love y-you…b-but I k-know I-I’m not g-good enough…I w-won’t e-ever be g-good enough…” He trailed off lightly, his fingertips closing around the boy’s shirt, having to speak in a low voice with his next sentence.
“B-but…w-why did you k-kiss m-me…i-if I was n-never good e-enough…” He knew he had to ask. He had to find out. He had to get an answer, because right now, he was falling into ruins.
“Y-you made it s-so h-hard…t-to w-walk a-away…b-because I wanted you to f-follow…I w-wanted to k-know you w-would be h-here…” He was spilling everything now, and he knew it. He was saying every single thing he never wanted to reveal, and it all just kept flying out.
“Y-you showed me…w-what it was like…t-to be loved…p-please…d-don’t take it a-away…” Aubrey felt himself stutter and gasp on the last word, reality finally setting in.
Tyler was gone, and Aubrey had lost.
And he was never coming back.

Tyler was stumped. How in the world could he tell Aubrey that he liked him just the way he was? Like and love were two completely different things, but he wished that he could simply comfort the boy. He shouldn't have had to go through anything like that. If he had just stayed away from the NEKO, they wouldn't be dealing with that in the first place. Tyler was not gay. He was certain he wasn't. Even if he was, he wouldn't fall in love with Aubrey. Not that there was anything wrong with him, but Tyler just... couldn't do it.
"Aubrey, stop it." He took a step back, leaning down so that the two were at eye-level. He had no choice but to be stern with him. "I know you want to feel love. I know you want affection. Everyone does. But that affection you want... it isn't going to come from me. I'm sorry I upset you with that... that kiss. But a kiss isn't everything. You're a NEKO... and I'm a human. I don't do relationships anyway." He sighed deeply and put his hand on top of Aubrey's head. "One day, you'll find the love you want. And I know you want me but... I'm sorry."
That was it. He couldn't say it any other way. He was trying to get rid of Aubrey. He was trying to lightly push him in his own direction. He couldn't get tangled up in a relationship. And he couldn't get tangled up in being overprotective over the boy. In the end, it would just come back to hurt them both.
Tyler stood again and ran a hand through his own hair, looking around the eerie part of town. It was kind of spooky (and that damn old man was still staring at them!). "I'm going home, Aubrey." He looked down at the troubled, crying NEKO. "I don't want you to follow me."
How could he be so cruel? He didn't want to be. But some things just... had to be that way.

Aubrey knew everything had an end. He knew everything had to come crashing down eventually, simply because nothing lasted. There was never anything good in his life that lasted, and this was one of them. He could feel the pain beginning to rise within him. He could feel every single muscle tense inside him. There was…there was nothing he could do anymore, and he had decided it. There was nothing that was ever good within his life. There was nothing he could ever depend on, and that was that. He needed to get out though. He needed to…to find someone. He knew who he was going to look for. He knew what was going to happen to him, and he knew that he wanted it to happen. He didn’t look the boy in his eye. He refused to. He nodded gently from his words before the boy stood up, smiling sadly to himself.
“It’s because I’m different. A NEKO. I’m not living, I’m just property. It’s because I’m male. I like other males, so I’m a freak. I understand. I won’t bother you anymore.” And then with a rush of wind in their face, Aubrey was gone. He had never been so eager to leave, to escape. But he had to. He had to run away. He had to run far, far away; somewhere where no one could hurt him anymore. Somewhere where everything would be all right. Somewhere where the pain would just go away. He had gravity on his side. He had feline advantages on his side, and he would make it there. He would find the person he needed. He would find everything he needed to get rid of this monstrosity he called his life. He didn’t care how it happened. He didn’t care where it happened. All he knew, was that it needed to happen. And so the boy went in search. He would look until he found her. He would look until he could feel that same metal blade slipping through his ribs as ribbons of crimson flowed out the hole. He would look until he could feel his life being syphoned out of himself by Kura’s hand.
But for now, he ran. He ran through the forest, accumulating scratch after scratch and wound after wound, because he simply didn’t care anymore. He didn’t care when he felt a tree branch gash through his arm that caused him to bleed profusely. He didn’t care when he fell from yet another tree branch, hearing the bones in his wrist crack and shatter; but why? Was he moving that fast? Was his body actually being propelled at such a speed? He imagined so, seeing as every single thing he passed by was nothing more than a mere blur of color. When he looked at his hand as it grabbed for a tree; it was black. There was a faint outline of the boy’s skin within the darkness, but otherwise, he was no longer there: Aubrey was no longer there. To put it simply, he was energy. He was energy trapped within a useless carcass that the world needed to be rid of, and he would do it. He would dismember every part of his body until there was nothing left. Until every piece of himself was destroyed and obliterated. And he would do it.
Limb. By. Limb.
