God works in mysterious ways.
Karma is a bitch.
What goes around comes around.
There were a million thoughts running through the boy's head on that rainy afternoon. His entire life, he felt sorry for the children that were abducted from their families to be subjects for the NEKO project. He also thought that he would be safe. Most children that were taken for the mill were kidnapped at a young age. Most kids over the age of fifteen were pretty safe.
It was unexpected.
Tyler was spending a normal afternoon at home. His mother was home, and his father was away for business. The australian boy was propped up on the plush couch in the living room watching reruns of "That 70's Show" when his mother walked in, sitting beside him with a big bowl of popcorn. It was unusual for the two to spend time together, so he enjoyed relaxing and having a laugh with his mum.
There was a knock at the door and he offered to answer it, getting up before his mother and going to the elegant front door. When he opened the door, he was staring up into his reflection in dark black sunglasses.
"Tyler Matthew Owens, you're being taken in for experimental purposes. You have the right to remain silent. You do not have time to pack any personal belongings. You are to leave all personal belongings at this residence."
Ten minutes later, his mother was sobbing on the floor and he was being violently pulled towards the long black limo in the front yard.
He had never been so afraid in his life.
Tyler was unsure of how much time had passed. He was pulled into a dim-lighted room and stripped of all clothing. Standing nude in front of a large strange man, he was physically examined and prodded. He was asked his height and weight. The man wrote down short notes on a clipboard before grabbing Tyler's shoulder and pushing him back towards the door. Down the hallway. Around a corner. Down another hallway. There were loud shrieking noises that he refused to comprehend. Finally, he was shoved into a white room. Pushed to the ground. Tyler would have fought back if he knew that he had a chance. But he didn't. These men had weapons. He had nothing but his strength, which had decided to disappear from his body. The seventeen year old felt numb.
There were needles. A lot of needles. The cold tile flooring was being used as a lab table as another strange man (this time with a surgical mask over his mouth) leaned over him, sticking needles into his arms. Burning. There was a lot of burning. He felt like he was being incinerated, but there was no fire.
The scientist injected multiple chemicals into the boy, restraining his arms to keep from writhing. Tyler slammed his head back into the floor, hoping to pass out (or wake up) from this horrible dream. When he opened his eyes a few seconds later, the scientist was closer to him, leaning over him like a hungry lion about to prey on a helpless animal. There was a long silver needle just millimeters from his right eye.
More pain. The needle went into the corner of his eye and Tyler let out a god-awful scream as both of his eyes shut. There was liquid coming from the left of his face, but he wasn't sure if it was blood, tears, or chemicals.
He only recognized pain.
When he opened his eyes the scientist had gotten off of him, grabbing the boy by the hair and pulling him to his knees. Everything was blurry and he was dizzy, but he could see the man turning his head forcefully to look at himself in the mirror.
His eyes were glowing. Glowing like cat eyes in the darkness. Tyler wanted to scream again, but no sound came out of his lips. He was terrified. More afraid than he had ever been in his entire life. His arms were drenched in blood from the needles that had poked him, and there was blood running down from the corner of his left eye.
"Please... no..." he whispered.
"Silence, boy." the scientist snapped. "Subject Z3472. Eye treatment 37 is complete."
Tyler was shoved down again and another needle was inserted into his eye. There was absolutely nothing he could do but scream.
Scream like the shrieks of agony he had heard upon entering the mill.
By the time his experimentation for the hour was over, he was bloody, naked, covered in bruises on the ground. They had broken his spine and taken part of it out so he simply wouldn't "be taller than other subjects". They had sawed down his bones and reattached the tissue so that he was smaller. There was gauze thrown hastily around the surgery sights.
Tyler wasn't even sure what was happening anymore. He tried to find a happy place, but he really couldn't. He couldn't see at all out of his right eye (the scientist had missed the nerve, he supposed and put the needle in the wrong place). His other eye ached horribly and it hurt to open it at all. He was left on a table while the scientist went to lunch. He was left to scream helplessly, until he was simply too weak.
