He could feel Aubrey's weight relaxing against him the entire walk from the kitchen to the bathroom. Aubrey had to be exhausted, worn down with fatigue, which only made Tyler want to tend to him faster. When they reached the bathroom and after he set the boy down, he reached over the bathtub and turned on the faucet, letting the shower run warm before Aubrey got in. "Clothes?" Tyler repeated in his strong australian accent. He had a lot of clothes. "Yeah sure, hold on."
Tyler left the bathroom for a moment and came back with a clean set of folded clothes for the boy. There was clean boxers, warm loose pajama pants, and a t-shirt that would probably be too big on him. Oh well, they were clean and they were fresh. Most of all, they smelled like warm vanilla, a pleasant scent for the NEKO's nose.
"You can go ahead and have these, and I'll get you a pair of jeans for morning." He explained as he put the clothes on the counter and pulled down fresh towels as well. He was trying to be the best host possible for the boy. The water in the shower was running warm enough now, so he crouched down again in front of Aubrey. "Here, I'll help." It wasn't awkward for Tyler, he just didn't want Aubrey to strain himself. He unzipped the boy's pants and tugged them down lightly, tossing the ripped stained clothing into the hamper and doing away with his boxers as well. When the boy was standing there naked, he could see just how many scars and bruises he seemed to have. It was a horrible sight, and it made him want to scoop Aubrey up and hug him. The poor little guy. (No matter how many times Aubrey would deny it, he was still little to him.) He also noticed the belly button ring that was almost hidden before. Cute.
"I'll be in my bedroom when you're done. Second door on the right. Take as long as you want." Tyler patted the boy's head between his soft ears and stood up completely, turning to walk out the door and leave the boy to bathe.

Aubrey was never used to being helped. It was something he never thought that he would ever need, but imagined that eventually he would. Everyone needed help eventually, right? Well, in Aubrey’s eyes, he never thought he would. He was always doing things on his own. He was always getting things done and keeping himself prepared and ready for life by himself. He didn’t think he would need anyone do to anything, but yet, for some reason, he felt that he needed this boy. He felt like without him, Aubrey wouldn’t have made it through this night. As if, without him, Aubrey would simply be another name forgotten by everyone right now. He didn’t have family anymore. He didn’t have anyone who looked out for him, so he was used to doing it himself; he was used to looking out for everyone he cared about, including himself.
Shock ran across his features as he felt his pants leave him. His eyes widened as the boy went for his boxers, and immediately his tail shot into the boys’ face to cover himself when they were peeled off him. His cheeks were bright red as the boy stood there and looked at him for a moment. His left leg turned in to cover himself and his tail bunched up in the front so none of himself was revealed. He nodded at the boy, at a complete loss for words before he left. Aubrey shut the door and locked it with haste. His eyes moved to the shower before he sighed to himself and maneuvered his way into it. Relief washed over him as the shower door was shut and warm water moved over his entire body. He was embarrassed beyond belief. He never let anyone see him like that. He never let anyone see the scars and bruises that decorated his body; but yet this boy stripped him down as if it were nothing? Aubrey felt something bubble up inside him…it was something he hadn’t felt in a long time…and it was something he never wanted to feel again.
Anger.
Part of him felt used for some reason unknown to even himself. He didn’t know why, but he felt slightly…violated, would be the word? No. Not that. Vulnerable. Ah. Yes. There is was. Aubrey felt as if he was wide open, and even in the shower, even behind a pair of closed doors; he felt the need to cover himself. He crossed his arms over his chest and his tail wrapped around his waist and front, and a small tear drifted out his eye. It wasn’t fair. It was never fair how people thought they could do whatever they wanted, how they felt they could see whatever they wanted. More tears began to form in Aubrey’s eyes, and he had to fight them away. He growled beneath his breath before shutting the shower off, only having been in there for four, maybe five minutes. There was never a need for a towel for him. He raised his hands to himself, and with the flick of a wrist the water was sent plummeting off his body and onto the ground. He walked out with haste, grabbing the clothes and putting them on fast. He sighed, scratching the back behind part of his feline ear, earning a small purring noise; they were his weakness. He walked out of the bathroom without a sound, but he didn’t want to bother the other boy. He walked over to a window he found on the side of the house, not going near the others room, and gently opened it. He removed the screen and maneuvered through the window, placing the screen back in place before jumping lithely to the roof.
He moved to the edge of the roof and sat down, bringing his knees to his chest and letting his tail curl around his neck and head. He could feel his stitches aching, but didn’t care, a stray tear landing down his cheek and onto his tail.
He always seemed to find something wrong with life.
And he hated it.

Tyler glanced at his watch. It was after three in the morning now, probably almost four. Usually he was fast asleep by now, but there was no way he would rest until he was sure that Aubrey would be okay. That was one of Tyler's weaknesses. He got close too fast, and he was extremely over-protective. After what happened with Heather...
No, he didn't want to think about that again. He couldn't. He was seventeen years old, he couldn't get torn up about something that had happened months ago that had been completely out of his control. But maybe if he had hurried home that day instead of going to karate. Maybe if he had told her to stay inside that day. Maybe she wouldn't have been used as target practice by their neighbor. The neighbor had since moved away, but he still felt anger swell up inside of him whenever he looked at the empty house. It was his fault that Heather was dead.
The teenage boy was sitting on his bed for awhile, staring up at the ceiling fan as he tried to clear his mind. It was his job to help NEKO so that they wouldn't end up dead. Dead like his little Heather. He wouldn't stop helping them until the day that he died.
After a few minutes he decided to get up and check on Aubrey, but to his surprise when he walked to the bathroom the door was open and the light was turned off. Where had Aubrey gone? Had he already left? Tyler hurried throughout the house, looking frantically for the boy. If he really wanted to leave that badly, he knew he couldn't stop him. Still, he felt bad.
Just when he was about to give up looking he walked back up the stairs and looked out the window beside the top step. There was a small shadow sitting right outside on the edge of the roof. A small shadow with little perky ears and a slowly swaying tail. Tyler sighed in relief and quietly opened the window, climbing out. It was a slanted roof, but he had enough balance to climb out to where Aubrey was sitting and sat down beside him. "I used to come out here to think all of the time." he said quietly, not daring to startle the boy. "Especially at night, when everything was quiet." Maybe the two had more in common than they thought. "Won't you come inside? You must be starving." He was just trying to help the boy as much as he could, and felt like he was failing at it.

Aubrey knew what it was like to feel alone in the world. He knew exactly what it felt like to be left alone, to fend for everything yourself. He knew what it was like to sit in an alley and miss a meal because you were too exhausted to go out and catch it. He knew what it was like to miss someone so much that it breaks you down to the point of exhaustion. He knew all of this, and yet this boy was offering him help…but he didn’t want to take it. He couldn’t get attached to this boy now. Not now. Not ever. He had to be able to live on his own. He had to be able to function on his own and do all of this by himself. To make matters worse, he felt even more exposed and in the open than usual. It was light in the house. The boy had seen all the scars on him. It was humiliating enough that he had them, but for people to see them? Oh, it was one of Aubrey’s biggest fears. He didn’t know how to handle it at this point. He didn’t know what to do. What to say. Should he tell him how he feels? She he confess to the boy the things that are bothering him?
When the boy found him and swung up onto the roof, he knew the answer was no. The moment he sat down, Aubrey knew he could not say it. He knew that it would hurt the boy next to him. Aubrey had a saying in his mind that just sort of kept replaying over and over for him. Destroy what destroys you. The thought, even the fathom of hurting the boy that had now found his way next to Aubrey killed him. He couldn’t even imagine hurting the boy in any way. So why should he tell him how he feels? Why should he tell him when all Tyler was doing was trying to help him? There was just too much, he didn’t know how to deal with all of this, he didn’t know what to do with the things he felt. “Why did you help me?” The question was abrupt and seemed to come out of the blue, but not to Aubrey. To Aubrey, this was just the beginning of a line of questions he wanted to know the answer to. Aubrey wasn’t paying much attention to his tail at this moment, because his mind was elsewhere, and that’s when it just seemed to move on its own. It was kind of involuntary when Aubrey’s tail moved and he wasn’t paying attention. He didn’t even notice as it gently moved to the boy’s side, strolling up his body to gently poke at his nose and cheek. Aubrey’s eyes were focused elsewhere, but it was like…what he felt…was shown through his tail. “Why did you stitch me up?” His tail trailed gently down to the boys’ neck. “Why did you carry me up the stairs?” It was on the side of his neck now, gently poking at his ear. “W-why did you…” Aubrey felt his jaw clench and his tail did the same, stopping abruptly next to the boys’ neck. “Why did you undress me?” The words came out laced with a venom that was unintentional, but Aubrey needed to know. He wanted to know why the boy did what he did. “I could have hurt you. I could have killed you. I could have done so much to you.” His tail wrapped around the boy’s neck as he talked, the fur gently rubbing against him before retreating back around Aubrey’s neck, curling further into himself. “Why…” His voice dropped down to a small whisper with his last words, the tears rimming and spilling over his eyes and burning down his cheeks. He didn’t want to know the answers. But he knew he needed to.[/blockquote]

He knew that Aubrey was upset. He could read the boy's emotions like a book. His eyes told a story that Tyler could almost understand. He was hurt, afraid, and confused, which was normal for a NEKO. Especially one that had just been through such a traumatic experience. His longing to help Aubrey got in the way of his normal attitude. If Aubrey had been a normal kid he probably would have let him do whatever he pleased. But Aubrey wasn't normal. He was a wounded, scared NEKO. And Tyler was going to change that.
Just as Tyler was about to speak again, Aubrey spoke up with his first question. Why did he help him? Well that was easy. He couldn't let someone bleed to death in an alley, or let a simple switchblade pull his life away. No one deserved that kind of pain or death. Second of all, it was his job to take care of hurt NEKO. He wouldn't explain that part for now, but he wished that Aubrey would understand that he wasn't doing this because he had to. He was doing it because he wanted to.
"I wanted to help you." he answered as he felt something warm and fuzzy slide up his side. It was a good thing that he wasn't ticklish, or he probably would have squirmed away. Instead, it left him with a soft feeling inside. Aubrey was exploring his body with his tail, and he didn't quite mind. As Aubrey continued to ask questions, his tail moved up to his face and then down his neck. Tyler didn't move, just continued to look at the boy with bright emerald eyes. Why did he stitch him up? "Because you would have died if I hadn't." Why did he carry him up the stairs? "Because you wouldn't have made it by yourself." Why did he undress him? "Because I didn't want you to go through any more pain than you had to."
Tyler was quiet. He wasn't sure what to say when Aubrey began to talk about himself. He was dangerous? He could have killed him? Slowly, the teenager responded, "No offense Aubrey but... I'm a black belt in martial arts. I'm pretty sure I can stand a few claw marks." He gave him a small smile and put his hand out to touch Aubrey's cat ear, the pierced one. Gently, he rubbed it between his thumb and his index finger. "I'm not afraid of you. I just want to help you."

Aubrey figured the boy could tell he wasn’t exactly okay. He always had a problem of telling people how he felt, but usually it shined through his features and expressions. Aubrey wasn’t a being to be scared easily. He had been through so much in his life…but…but the idea that this boy saw him so…so openly, scared him. That he could destroy him with it. He could make Aubrey’s life a living hell if he wanted to; and it petrified him. It was scary to know that, no matter how hard you try, or no matter how hard you plead, some people will just break you. Some people will enjoy breaking you into tiny little pieces…but he didn’t know if Tyler was that way. He didn’t know what the boy wanted really…and it was that part that scared him. He didn’t know if she should befriend the boy and let him in…or if he should run now and escape. There was something though…something that nagged at the back of his mind…telling him to trust the boy. To put his faith in Tyler, because honestly, he just didn’t want to be let down. He didn’t want someone to break him…but maybe…maybe with Tyler, he wouldn’t break. Maybe he could still be in one piece…but he didn’t know; he wouldn’t know. Unless he tried. And Aubrey was willing to try.
He listened to the boy give him answers for every question, and internally he cringed. He felt guilt sting and jab at his heart…but he couldn’t help it. He had to ask! He had to find out what he wanted from Aubrey! No one would understand though. No one would get it…and so he was afraid to tell him. He was afraid to let him into his heart…for fear that he would break it…that he would let it shatter into a million pieces. He had to argue though. There was one point he had to argue.
“B-but you s-saw me…you s-saw everything…e-every…s-single…t-thing…” The tears were welling back up at the memory of the boy looking at him, at the memory of the boy seeing everything on his body. Most of his scars were inflicted at an early age…but some of them were not. Some were fresh and just as painful as they come. Aubrey couldn’t help but let a small smile spread across his face. It was a sad smile of sorts, because the boy didn’t know what Aubrey could do. He didn’t pick up on his gift yet, so Aubrey would just have to show him. He sighed before letting his right hand stroll out towards the street. It began to glow a little, before suddenly the black streaks were tearing through the air and the pavements on the street began to crack and shatter beneath the intensity of the attack.
“Y-you knew…I could do t-that…yet you…still h-helped me…” He let his fangs dig into his bottom lip and draw blood that seeped down his chin.
But then Aubrey froze. His body froze, his eyes stopped tearing and expanded slightly, and his muscles began to tremble and fidget. The boy had touched his ear. The pierced ear. Aubrey knew his weakness was his ear. It had always been, but right now…now the boy had found it, and now he was really, really wide open. A purr emitted from the boy, his eyes closed half way as his head inched into the boy’s hand, not wanting the touching to stop. His tail wrapped around the other boy’s torso, and very quietly and carefully, Aubrey brought them closer together until he could let his arms encircle the boy, and he buried his head into his touch, purring softly. Aubrey didn’t mean to cling. He never meant to cling…but something inside him…it just made him that way. He pulled himself closer to the boy, nuzzling him gently, letting his tail sneak up his right side and move against the side of his neck. In a moment Aubrey felt his eyes close, and this was when he knew the boy had gotten in. He knew Tyler had found a way to tiptoe into Aubrey’s heart, and earned his affection. His head rubbed gently against the boy’s hand and arm, and Aubrey’s own arms tightened around him. He was happy. He was content.
He was safe.

The boy was gifted, and that was obvious. The way his eyes glowed a hazy purple when he used his powers fascinated Tyler, but he still wasn't afraid. He didn't see life as "NEKO were inferior to humans" like most people did. He saw life being a shaky balance between the two species. But special NEKO like Aubrey were hard to come across, it seemed. Just with a simple movement of his hand, Aubrey was able to crack the cement on the street below. He was certain that if he wanted, he could have done so much more.
How many times did he have to explain to him that he wasn't afraid? Trust was hard to earn and he figured it would take time to get him, but Tyler hoped that he could try at least. Aubrey was so traumatized and ill that it was hard for him to stand up for himself. If Tyler hadn't stepped in and helped him, he most certainly would have died.
Suddenly Tyler was shocked by the change in attitude in Aubrey. Just by touching his ear softly, Aubrey had begun to purr and get closer. His purrs were soft and tucked into the back of his throat, like a real cat, and Tyler couldn't help but to smile, especially as Aubrey pressed against him and wrapped his arms around him.
Tyler wasn't complaining. Aubrey had definately opened up, just by a simple touch. He held the smaller boy in his arms lightly, letting him nuzzle against him and stick his face into the crook of his neck. It was sweet, and he was glad that Aubrey felt more secure around him. That was his goal after all, to make Aubrey feel safe and well. There was nothing to say as he hugged the boy closer. "Lets go inside, Aubrey." he suggested quietly. "It's getting late, and I want you to eat something and rest." Tyler stood up on the roof, still holding Aubrey in his arms, and carried him back into the house through the window, taking him all the way back downstairs to the kitchen and setting him on the ground.
He let Aubrey sit there with his legs crossed like a child on the floor as he began to dig into the refridgerator, pulling out a gallon of milk and pouring him a big glass, crouching down and handing it to him. "Drink this, it's good." It was kind of nice taking care of someone. Like an older brother.

It was amazing how fast Aubrey would warm up to people. It was hard to believe that such an affectionate boy could be so…so alone. Aubrey was sometimes confused by that, but he didn’t really mind being alone too much. He knew that life needed to be lived alone, and sometimes that was just the way it had to be. Though…it wasn’t always the most pleasant to be alone. Sometimes it hurt…and sometimes it made you crave company. This was probably why Aubrey liked Tyler so much. This was probably why he didn’t want to leave the boy’s arms, but knew he had to. He smiled small as the boy brought him inside, finding it harder to frown now…but he liked it. He didn’t like when it was so easy for him to frown and be sad. He liked it when he could smile easily and just latch onto someone, in this case Tyler. It just…it came so easily. To be able to hug him…to be able to cling to him. It was…reassuring. It was nice.
He let the boy carry him down into the kitchen, but a frown creased over his face when he was set down. He watched as the boy got him something to drink and poured it in a glass. Aubrey couldn’t but giggle as he found milk. People always assumed that just because he was part cat, it meant he liked milk. The boy didn’t mind milk, but he liked normal people stuff too. He let his mouth gently touch the glass as he drank slightly. He wiped his mouth with his tail when he was done, smiling small. He got up in a small, petite movement before placing the glass on the counter. He was really enjoying the baggy pajama pants the boy had got him, and the big shirt as well. He felt a small tug though, and made a small noise as the piercing in his stomach was gently pulled on. He lifted this shirt up just enough to see the piercing, caught within the fabric of the white T-shirt. He gently unhooked it and worked its way out of the shirt before placing it back down, over the small piercing before blushing and looking back up the boy.
“S-sorry.” He gently grabbed the milk with both his hands, bringing it to his mouth before finishing the rest, his tail dancing around his head lightly as he did. He walked over to the sink and gently placed the cup within it, washing it out with water before placing it in the dishwasher. He walked over in front of the boy, his feet turning in towards themselves as he looked around for anything else to clean. He let his eyes stroll over the entire kitchen before sighing, looking back to the boy. He opened his mouth to speak, but then shut it, not fully sure of what he was going to say. Silently, the boy walked up to the taller teen and let his arms wrap around him, resting on his chest and letting his tail sneak up to rub and play against the boy’s face.
“Are you tired?” He asked in a small voice, hugging the boy close.
Aubrey was actually happy for once.
And he didn’t want the feeling to ever go away.

Tyler was amused as he watched the boy sip the milk out of the cup. He thought that he might enjoy the milk because he was a NEKO, and NEKO's were basically cats... but maybe he was wrong. Still, Aubrey seemed to enjoy it. He wanted to find him something substantial to eat, but all he could find in the cuboard was poptarts and potato chips. Curse his mother for being lazy and not going to the store. Tyler watched Aubrey fumble with the baggy shirt he was given, it had caught on his little belly button ring, and it took a moment for him to fix it. He thought it was a little unusual for a NEKO to have piercings, but somehow if fit him, and it worked. Still, belly button? Wasn't that a little... flamboyant?
Not that he had a problem with homosexuals, but it hadn't occured to him that NEKO could have a sexual orientation as well. He pushed the thought to the back of his head. Aubrey was a sweet guy and he was just going to be there for him, despite what gender he liked or what piercings he had. At that moment Aubrey had stood up and wrapped his arms around him again. His head only came up to Tyler's chest, but he didn't mind as he looked down at Aubrey and patted the boy's head. The fuzzy warmth of his tail was back around his neck and his face, too.
And then he asked if he was tired. "Are you kidding? After all of this excitement?" he chuckled. He wasn't ready to sleep yet, but he did want Aubrey to get some rest so he could heal faster. "But I'll tell you what. Let's go get some sleep and in the morning, I'll take you to town to get something for you to eat. Sound good?" Tyler gave him a reassuring smile and started to lead the boy out of the kitchen back to the stairs. It was really late after all, and they both deserved some sleep.

Aubrey didn’t really mind the fact that the boy seemed to be looking for food for him. He thought it was really nice, actually. No one ever really looked out for him…so he just thought that this was especially nice. No one ever really tried to help him in any way. Well, if they did it was because they wanted something from him. Most people were like that though. Most people did things simply because they could get something out of it and that…that Scared Aubrey. What also scared Aubrey? His feelings. He was scared that if he got too close to this boy…that if he really, truly opened up to this boy…something else might develop that Aubrey just did not want to deal with. Aubrey never really understood the point of…of love. It was something that was very foreign to him. He knew what it was like to love a family member, because he had done that before…but actually…love someone…? Oh no, Aubrey still hadn’t even had his first kiss. He was waiting for the perfect person, preferably male, to share it with.
But that would not be Tyler. Oh no, no, no. Aubrey began to pummel it into his brain. There was no liking allowed here. There was never any liking allowed when it came to humans’. But…but Tyler was so different than the rest of them...no! Aubrey couldn’t allow himself to feel anything for Tyler. He couldn’t allow himself. He would…he would…do something drastic if he developed feelings. But then…then the boy patted him on the head…and he purred some more and blushed. No. This was not allowed. There was no blushing allowed. There was nothing allowed. But then he began to walk away, and Aubrey felt his heart sink down. He eagerly walked after the boy and, in somewhat of an unintentional manner, Aubrey found his tail wrapping around the boy’s torso again and hugging into his side. He just…it was comfortable! Sue him! But he knew he had to stop. Aubrey knew that he had to stop now…he had to pull himself away now…but he couldn’t. The more he thought about it, the harder he latched on. He just didn’t know what to do with himself right now, and so he just followed after the other boy.
He just didn’t want to lose him like everyone else.
Aubrey couldn’t deal with losing another person.
