Pain.
Her entire body stung in the icy mist that had surrounded her. Hundreds of ice shards had sunk into her skin, throwing her backwords into a tree. And that was it. She sunk down to the ground on her knees and fell forward on her stomach. Blood was gathering ontop of the frozen ground in a steady growing puddle that she lied in. All she could focus on was the lack of warmth in her body, and the hundreds of needle-like shards sticking into her skin.
Perhaps it had been the first battle that she had ever lost. What would her clan do if she died there, in a triumphant puddle of crimson? How would they survive without her leadership? Ashlee lied motionlessly, her cheek resting against the ice. It chilled her to the bone and she found herself becoming numb, as if there was no heat left in her body.
She had lost to the ice NEKO that stood before her. She was dying protecting her territory, but she was dying nonetheless. With a rigid breath she murmured, "You win." It was hardly audible, but it was there, and she was certain that Cherish would hear it. It was her surrender.
Her different colored eyes flickered shut and she lied there in her blood, her body growing paler with each passing moment. It wouldn't take long for her to bleed out and die. Unless by some miracle one of her clanmates would come along and help her... only they were all asleep, she had double checked before she left. And they were too far off into the woods for their brawl to be heard. It was too late now.
The young fifteen year old petite girl sighed as her consiousness slipped away. Realization hit her that this was the end for her, and there was nothing she could do about it.
That goddamn cat.

Even though it was faint, Cherish heard it. She heard the small surrender of the other girl, and that was all it took to melt the ice surrounding her heart. She quickly stumbled off her ice as everything began to melt. She lawed her way through her own icy playground, before finding the girl, lying in a puddle of her own blood. She huffed as she got over next to her. Ever so gently, she lifted the girl up and turned her over. She grimaced at the sight of her own work, but none the less she let her hand stroll up to feel for the girls pulse.
“You’re still alive. Don’t die on me yet. You’re an alpha right? Your clan needs you. Don’t die. Oh please. Please don’t die.” Her eyes began to pool at the idea that the girl was going to…to d-die. Cherish had never…k-killed someone before. She didn’t know how to handle this. She had to calm herself. She took in a deep breath before letting her hands settle on the girl’s stomach. She closed her eyes, and son all the shards of ice lodged in her body melted down into water. Soon the water began to move into her body, crystalizing and fixing everything she could manage. A beat of cold sweat dropped down the back of Cherishes neck before she took the girls pulse again. It was weak, but it was there. Once more, she placed her hands on the girls’ stomach, and shut her eyes tight. She focused hard and long on all the wounds covering her body, and soon water began to fill every single one of them. It numbed the pain and stopped the bleeding, and ever so gently it formed small, thing sheathes of ice over the wounds, giving them protection so they could heal properly.
Cherish took off her jacket and lifted the girl up, placing it around her and buttoning it up tight. She gently tilted the girls head up to look at her, poking at her cheeks and forehead lightly.
“S-stay with me. You d-didn’t tell me your name. W-what’s your name sweetheart?” Cherish couldn’t help but let a few stray tears run down her eyes. She couldn’t let this girl die. She wouldn’t let this girl die, no, not on her watch.
“T-this might hurt a b-bit. B-but it should help you…s-since you’re a f-fire N-NEKO.” She nodded at her own words before placing the girl down on the ground again. She shut her eyes, concentrating on the water inside her this time. She let it gently heat up temperatures. One degrees. Two degrees. The water continued to bring the temperature of the girl’s body up and up until it was at a boiling point. That was when she stopped; exhausted. She laid the girl down gently on the ground, before making her body sustain the hot temperature it was at. Her eyes were drifting shut, and she kept her hand on the other girl’s, because that was the only way she could keep the temperature the same. Her body dropped to the ground, exhausted; weak. Her hand never left the girls as she muttered some French under her breath incoherently.
She would never let this girl be harmed again.
It was decided. [/size]

Ashlee had never felt so weak and helpless. If there was one thing that she hated, it was feeling helpless. Unable to defend herself, or her clan, or her territory. She was the worst alpha in existance. But there was nothing she could do. She may have had powers, but she wasn't invincible. No NEKO was. They could only withstand a certain amount of pain and torture until they break. And Ashlee had just broken.
Just as she was about to drift away into the comfort of the darkness, she felt cold hands beneath her, turning her onto her back. Her mind was too worn down to comprehend that it was Cherish, but she wished that the cold would just go away. All of the warmth within her had disappeared, replacing her with the bone-chilling cold that she was left with. Almost like she was cold as the ice beneath her.
But then she heard the voice that she recognized as Cherish's... but it wasn't the same. It was shaky, and soft. She was speaking softly to her, and touching her gently. Ashlee couldn't comprehend what was going on, she was too tired and felt her life was draining as the seconds ticked by. Little words echoed in her furry black ears. What's... name... sweetheart... She answered on instinct. "Ashlee." Her voice was scratchy and quiet, and she longed to curl up into a safe ball on her side. So much pain.
She wasn't aware of anything until the warmth began to slowly come back to her. It didn't feel hot because she was so used to it, but the warmth was comforting in her body, and she longed for it to stay, just for a little while longer. The icy feeling was gone beneath her and replaced with the simplicity of wet grass. Ashlee whimpered as her body continued to sting, even as the ice had been melted and left her body, and replaced with a boiling temperature. What was causing the rapid changes in her environment? One moment she had been fighting for her life, and now... she was at peace. It was almost a nice place to die.
But death wasn't coming to her yet. Weakly, the girl opened her eyes and looked to the side. Cherish was laying sprawled on the ground beside her. Why? What had just occured? Had Cherish just helped her, after that entire battle over their lives? Ashlee parted her lips to speak but found no words. She was exhausted and tired, and her body felt limp and numb.
She had no time to understand before sleep washed over her.
