Jormungandr’s emerald eyes flicked quickly from mutant creature to mutant creature. They looked like thin mixes between llamas and elephants. Kind of. This didn’t register to the hunter, though, he was waiting for the slightest hint that any of them were injured, that any of them were sick or that they could be safely culled without decreasing possibilities of the species reproducing. Jormun was thinking ahead only selfishly; if the animals could only continue to feed him if they continued reproducing and duplicating.
The dark haired hunter didn’t think in words, just flashes of memory and picture and feeling, almost like an animal. A wind picked up and Jormun went rigid, waiting to see if he would be detected now that his scent was flowing towards his prey. One of the females picked up her head, scented the air and made a guttural sound, but didn’t stir more than that. He smelled enough like the forest and the grazing creatures there from the skins he wore and slept in not to be too suspicious. Not to be considered a threat.
Jormun started slightly with the herd as they all picked up their heads and turned northwards. He quickly disappeared into the forest, southwest, away from the strange thing. The herd followed him, and caught up with him so he was running alongside the slowest of them. He knew he’d tire quickly, and that he was losing speed. He threw a burst of energy into his legs and slung himself onto the back of one of the creatures he thought would support his weight. The animal sped up and bucked a bit, but stayed with the herd like Jormun hoped it would. The first chance he got, he grabbed a hold of a sturdy branch above him. Holding on, he tried to hall himself onto it, but only succeeded in pulling himself off of the animal before his hands slipped and he fell flat on his back.
Yeah. That definitely hadn't worked.
